Previous Experience

Advocate Lehlohonolo Bernard Maphelela is a seasoned legal professional with over 15 years of experience in various aspects of law. He has been an Advocate of the High Court of South Africa since 2015, demonstrating his expertise in advocacy and litigation.
Prior to his current role, Advocate Maphelela held several key positions at the Department of Transport, where he played a crucial role in developing and implementing maritime policy and legislation. As Deputy Director and Assistant Director, he was responsible for:
- Developing and reviewing maritime policy and legislation
- Coordinating the process of legislative and regulatory review
- Ratifying international conventions and agreements
- Representing South Africa in international meetings and diplomatic
conferences
- Collaborating with stakeholders to develop and implement maritime
transport policy
